Oven Temperature Converter

Recipes from different countries list oven heat differently. Enter a temperature in any one unit to see the other two.

How this works

Fahrenheit and Celsius convert with the standard linear formula (°F = °C × 9/5 + 32). Gas mark, used mainly in UK and Irish recipes, doesn't convert with a formula — it maps to a fixed table of Celsius/Fahrenheit bands defined by oven manufacturers, so this calculator looks up the nearest standard gas mark for a given temperature.

Source: Gas mark equivalents follow the UK Gas Mark standard used by British and Irish recipe publishers and appliance manufacturers.

Frequently asked questions

What is gas mark 4 in Fahrenheit and Celsius?

Gas mark 4 is 180°C, which is 350°F — one of the most common baking temperatures.

Is the Fahrenheit-to-Celsius conversion exact?

The Fahrenheit/Celsius formula is mathematically exact. Gas mark is not a formula-based conversion; it's matched to the nearest standard band on a gas cooker dial, so treat it as an approximation.

Do I need to adjust temperature for a fan (convection) oven?

Most manufacturers suggest lowering a conventional recipe temperature by about 20°C (25°F) for fan/convection ovens, or reducing cooking time by about 10% instead — check your oven's manual for its specific guidance.
